A Surgical DOGumentary

For the past few months, we've noticed our dog, Molly, sometimes limping and holding up her back right leg. She never yelped about it, just walked around hobbling on three legs for a bit. Timothy or I would go to her and manipulate her leg and what we thought was her hip going out of socket. It would make this strange pop but go back in place, and Molly would go on her way with a smile. Until Monday. The church office was closed for the day, and Timothy had some time at home with me and Molly. We ended up going for a walk down to the park... although it was a full-out three-legged hobble for Molly. Her joint would not cooperate and pop back in place. After we made it back home, she laid around for the rest of the day. We hoped Tuesday would be better. Nope. I took her to the vet to find out that her knee cap was going out of place, was probably really worn down on one side, and that she would most likely need surgery. So, our sweet puppy had Luxating Patella (Knee Cap) Repair yesterday by Dr. Culbreth at Thomasville Animal Hospital.

Basically, Dr. Culbreth reconstructed her knee joint and rerouted the patellar ligament and quadriceps tendon to hold her patella (knee cap) firmly in place. I won't go into the gory details as it is pretty intense. We were able to bring her home today from the vet. When she greeted us at the vet, she could walk on her three good legs and was putting some weight on the back right as well. She is on the road to recovery for sure and should be stronger as a result!

This is our sweet girl a couple of weeks ago!

This is really bizarre, but I have a friend that had this same surgery last week! It's kinda cool to know they do it on dogs too. Wishing Molly a speeding recovery!
