The Price of a Win in MLB?

Team:.........................Marlins........ vs. ........Yankees

As a Red Sox fan, my first response is to laugh. The Yankees are throwing more and more money at the team and still no results. With only about a month left in the season they're 10.5 games back from the AL East and 6 games back from the Wild Card. Meanwhile, the owners are paying $3.1 MILLION for ONE WIN... ha... ha... ha!

As a fan of the Kingdom, my first response is to throw up! The Marlins have one of the lowest payrolls in MLB, and they're still paying almost $500,000 for ONE WIN. So, last Wednesday instead of beating the Braves, the Marlins could have built 93 disease-free wells in Zambia, purchased 1,000 dairy cows for Honduras, planted 83,000 fruit trees in El Salvador, or tutored 1,000 students for an entire year in the U.S. (see World Vision)

That's just one win. That's just from the lowest payroll in MLB.... The Yankees can do SIX TIMES that!

I think there are better ways to spend money!

This is sad but true of most professional sports. I wonder if those teams donate any money to charity? I have heard of some Formula I teams donating money.
